The polar fox has a complete white color during the winter, during the summer it can have a gray-yellow coat. There are also polar foxes with a blue-gray coat. This fox doesn't change its coat but its color. With a weight between 4.5 to 8 kilos it can have a height of 60 to 100 cm.

Its eyes are blue. The polar fox's paws are short and its foot-sole is hairy. Its proboscis is short in proportion. After 8 weeks the polar fox can have a litter of 1 to 15 cubs. Usually 5 of them stay alive. The cubs are born in the late spring. The average age for a polar fox is 14 years.

The polar fox lives in artic areas of North-America and Northern-Europe. It lives in the North pole area and southwards to Canada usually in small groups at the tundra, where they sometimes dig holes for the little ones.

In the winter they dig tunnel systems under the snow. This fox hunts for birds, hares, lemmings and mice. It also looks for seals along the coast. When it can't find anything to eat, it eats the droppings of reindeers and musk-deer. It can be tamed and then it eats human rubbish. (www.dinohunter.nl)
